Enrichment

Our enrichment programme is a central part of life at Millom School. Every Wednesday afternoon, students take part in a wide range of enrichment activities designed to enhance their school experience.

These activities are delivered by teachers, support staff, and visiting organisations and professionals who bring specialist knowledge and expertise. The programme is carefully structured to broaden students’ experiences, helping them to develop valuable skills and personal qualities that are highly regarded by universities and future employers.

Enrichment also plays a key role in promoting our core school values:

  • Excellence through commitment, participation, and striving to achieve personal bests
  • Empowerment by encouraging independence, confidence, and leadership skills
  • Equity by providing all students with access to a diverse range of opportunities
  • Empathy through collaboration, teamwork, and understanding others’ perspectives

Students and parents receive an enrichment booklet during the summer term, outlining the programme for the following academic year. This includes details about each activity, what students will learn, any off-site visits, required equipment, and any associated costs.

While the school subsidises the enrichment programme, we request a voluntary contribution of £15 to help cover increasing resource costs and to continue working with external providers. Some activities may require additional contributions for trips or visits; full details are provided in the enrichment booklet.

Over the course of the year, students will take part in up to six different enrichment activities, giving them the opportunity to mix with peers across all year groups and build new friendships.

This year’s enrichment booklet can be accessed via the link at the top of this page.

If you have any questions or concerns, particularly regarding costs, please do not hesitate to contact the school via the enrichment email: enrichment@millom.cumbria.sch.uk
