The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for anyone aged 14-24. Students participate in several trips, visits and challenges in order to achieve their Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE awards.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Millom School has been a highly successful element of school life in recent years and the groups involved have formed a strong and vibrant part of our school community.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award will not only add to the CVs and university applications of those students involved, but also allows them to build on their team work skills/leadership skills as well as their ingenuity, initiative and resilience. The award allows students to learn new skills whilst developing their character.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Millom School

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award groups participants into categories. Please click here to read about how each award can be achieved. Typically, students in Year 10 and below are encouraged to participate in the Bronze Award, students in Year 11 participate in the Silver Award, and sixth form students participate in the Gold Award. However, exceptions have and will continue to be made in order to allow students to achieve awards outside of these typical award groupings based on the individual student’s circumstances/experience.
