Year 6 Transition Overview

Welcome to Transition at Millom School

At Millom School, we understand that the move from primary to secondary school is a big step — one that can bring excitement, curiosity, and sometimes a few nerves. Our aim is to make this transition as safe, supportive, and welcoming as possible for every student and their family.

We believe these early experiences help to build the foundations of confidence and belonging. During our transition programme, students have the opportunity to make new friendships, explore their new environment, and begin forming bonds within their tutor groups, which will become a key source of support and connection throughout their time at Millom.

Our Year 5 Experience Day gives younger pupils an early taste of life at Millom, sparking excitement about what’s ahead. Our Year 6 Transition Day then allows future students to spend a day with their new peers and tutors, helping them feel comfortable and confident before September arrives. Frequent visits to the students in their primary settings happen each year and any student requiring further support can be included in our enhanced transition days, throughout the summer term.

Transition is not just about starting secondary school — it’s about beginning a journey of lifelong learning and personal growth. At Millom School, we are committed to helping every student discover their potential, embrace new opportunities, and truly be all they can be.
