EPQ

Extended Project Qualifications (EPQ) help students develop skills that are useful for university-level study and also help to demonstrate qualities that universities and employers are looking for.

Your EPQ is a project of your own choosing that you self-manage over the course of Year 12, alongside your studies in other subjects. You will carry out a high-level of research to produce a 5,000 word essay on your chosen subject. You have regular meetings with your supervisor to monitor and track your progress and you receive lessons of taught content to help you develop the essential skills for success.

The EPQ is a formal qualification worth half an A-level. It carries UCAS points for university. Some universities and employers will give you a lower grade offer if you have the EPQ. It’s also a really useful talking point at interviews.

The EPQ aims to offer opportunities for students to:

• make a significant contribution to the choice and design of an extended project and take responsibility either for an individual task or for a defined task within a group project

• develop and improve their own learning and performance as critical, reflective and independent students

• develop and apply decision-making and problemsolving skills

• extend their planning, research, critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills

• develop and apply skills creatively, demonstrating initiative and enterprise

• use their learning experiences to support their aspirations for higher education and/or career development

• transfer skills developed as part of their extended project to other areas of study
